Summary — Why we are praying now

The Cross River State Government has taken over the prosecution of a high-profile case involving allegations that two pastors — Uchenna Peter Chinweikpe and Valentine Aloysius — were linked to an armed robbery that led to the death of a young man, Princewill Ikenna Igbonaju. The alleged crime reportedly occurred on September 3, 2022, in Ikom, and recent developments indicate renewed official action to ensure the matter is prosecuted. Because the case touches the sanctity of life, the trustworthiness of spiritual leaders, the grief of a bereaved family, and the spiritual condition of those accused and all affected, Epifia calls the Church and all believers to pray urgently for truth, justice, healing, and salvation.

Highlighted reason to pray: when those called to serve as shepherds are accused of violent crime it wounds both the victims and the Body of Christ — we must pray for justice and protection for the vulnerable, healing for the bereaved, repentance and restoration for the accused if they turn to Christ, and the salvation of all souls touched by this tragedy.

About the key persons named in reports

Uchenna Peter Chinweikpe

Reported as a pastor connected with ministry activity in the Cross River region, Uchenna Peter Chinweikpe’s name surfaced in police investigations that linked certain suspects to the September 2022 attack and killing of Princewill Ikenna Igbonaju. News reports indicate that law enforcement tracked movements related to the victim’s vehicle and that Chinweikpe’s name appeared among persons of interest as investigations progressed.

Valentine Aloysius

Also described in reporting as a pastor (popularly referenced with a pastoral title in some community posts), Valentine Aloysius is named alongside Chinweikpe in investigative summaries. Local news accounts suggest both men were linked by police to the incident after investigators traced a vehicle involved in the crime to Lagos and other locations. Coverage indicates a complex set of leads and suspects — including other names reported as at large — but that government authorities are now taking a more active prosecutorial role.

About the victim & the impact on the family and community

The young man who lost his life in this violent event is named in reports as Princewill Ikenna Igbonaju. He was reportedly attacked, robbed, and killed while on his way to a barber’s shop in Ikom on September 3, 2022. The loss has left family, friends and the local community grieving and demanding accountability. The extended delay in prosecution and earlier controversial bail decisions have deepened community pain and calls for decisive government action.

The consequences of violent crime extend beyond an individual death — families must navigate trauma, financial loss, and spiritual devastation, while local faith communities face questions about leadership, safety, and how to shepherd wounded congregations.

Why we are praying — scriptural and pastoral reasons

  • For the family of the slain: to receive comfort, provision, and God’s peace in the wake of grief (Psalms 34:18; Matthew 5:4).
  • For truth and righteous judgment: that the full facts will surface and the courts and investigators will pursue justice with wisdom and fairness (Proverbs 18:5; Isaiah 1:17).
  • For the vulnerable to be protected: pray God would shield the weak and stop further harm (Psalms 82:3–4).
  • For repentance for those who have committed crime: that God would bring conviction and lead offenders to genuine repentance and restitution where possible (2 Chronicles 7:14; Acts 3:19).
  • For the Church and community leaders: for wisdom, courage, and pastoral sensitivity to support victims and to model accountability (James 1:5; Galatians 6:1).
  • For the salvation of every soul involved: our primary petition is that all hearts would turn to Christ — victims, accused, witnesses, and officials (Romans 10:9–10; John 3:16).

When violent crime touches a community, the Church is called to respond with prayer, compassion, and the pursuit of justice. Let us intercede without ceasing, stand with the bereaved, seek truth, and pray for the salvation and renewal of all hearts. Epifia urges every reader to join in prayer for justice, healing, and the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

    Heavenly Father,

We come before You burdened by violent loss and the pain it brings. We lift up the family of Princewill Ikenna Igbonaju and all who mourn. Comfort them with Your presence, provide for their needs, and surround them with compassionate care. Bring justice where wrong has been done.

Lord, we ask You to guide the investigators, prosecutors, and judges. Grant them wisdom, courage, and integrity so that truth will prevail. Protect the vulnerable and give voice to witnesses who can help bring clarity to this case.

If any have acted wickedly, bring them to repentance. Save those who are far from You and transform hearts by the power of Your Spirit. Help the Church to respond with both mercy and truth, to care for the wounded, and to champion justice for the oppressed.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace. Amen.
