Testimony of God’s Protection from a Petrol Tanker Accident

I want to glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for His mighty hand of deliverance over my family and me.

On Saturday, 30th August 2025, while returning from Ipetu-Ijesa Church along the Akure–Ibadan expressway, we encountered a very dangerous situation that could have ended in tragedy—but God intervened. I was driving the car with my wife and children sitting at the back, and a brother in Christ sitting in front with me.

As we moved along the narrow, single-lane road, a petrol tanker suddenly approached us from behind at full speed. Normally, vehicles that want to overtake from behind should pass on the left side of the road, provided there is no oncoming traffic. But shockingly, this petrol tanker attempted to overtake right in our lane, without any regard for our vehicle or lives.

In that critical moment, I had no option but to steer the car dangerously close to the bush so that the tanker would not crush us from behind. My heart trembled, knowing my family was inside the car, and the situation could have been fatal within seconds. The brother with me remarked, “This tanker driver has nothing to lose; it is us who would be destroyed. Perhaps he has been driving for more than 48 hours without sleep, or maybe he was under the influence of alcohol.”

But praise be to God Almighty, who is our shield and fortress! The Bible declares in:

Psalms 121:7–8 — “The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”

This scripture was fulfilled in our journey. The Lord did not allow the plans of the enemy to prevail. Instead, He stretched forth His hand of mercy and preserved our lives. Just as Jesus calmed the storm for His disciples in Mark 4:39, He also calmed the storm of danger on the expressway for us.

We were not spared because of our driving skills or strength, but because of the grace of God through Jesus Christ. The blood of the Lamb covered us and turned what could have been a tragic headline into a testimony of praise.

Assurance

I believe: Our God still saves! Our God still delivers! Our God still protects His children! He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
