God Made a Way Where There Seemed to Be No Way

Glory be to God for answering my prayer in a way I did not expect!

I want to share this testimony to encourage someone who may be praying about a situation and wondering whether God has heard them. Sometimes, when things appear to be going in the opposite direction from what we have prayed for, God is already working things out in ways we cannot see.

My Journey from Ibadan

I was returning from Ibadan to Ilesa when I miraculously got a lift in a private vehicle around Breweries, after Gbagi Market, close to the underbridge.

Before then, we had declined another vehicle because it had a foreign number plate. Eventually, we got into this private vehicle, and the driver drove at a considerable speed.

As we approached the University of Ilesa (UNILESA) junction, I politely asked the driver if he could enter Ilesa through Irojo Express Road. This was my preferred route because it would make it easier for me to get home around Aralopon Teacher.

However, the driver declined. He explained that he preferred to pass through Bolorunduro or College of Health Junction because he was heading towards the roundabout.

Then I Remembered That I Had Not Prayed

While discussing the route with the driver, something suddenly occurred to me: I had been trying to convince the man, but I had not first committed the matter into God's hands.

I immediately prayed, asking God to intervene and make a way for me.

Despite my prayer, the driver continued to insist that he would not take Irojo Express Road. According to him, Bolorunduro was a better route because there would be less traffic, unlike Irojo Express Road, where the activities around Sabo Market could cause traffic congestion.

I considered getting down at Amuta Junction, but I knew it might be difficult to find a motorcycle that would take me to my destination, especially with the rain.

So I decided to remain in the vehicle and follow the driver towards the roundabout, trusting that God's will would be done.

It Seemed My Prayer Had Not Been Answered

As the driver continued through Bolorunduro, I began to feel that perhaps my prayer had not been answered in the way I wanted.

After all, I had prayed for an opportunity to pass through Irojo Express Road, yet the driver had firmly rejected that route and was already taking another road.

Everything seemed settled. There was no apparent reason for him to change his mind.

But God had not finished working!

Then Something Unexpected Happened

When we eventually got to the roundabout through Bolorunduro, something surprising happened.

The driver suddenly turned back and began heading towards Sabo, along the very Irojo Express Road he had earlier refused to take!

I was amazed!

I wondered what had made him change his direction after repeatedly insisting that he would not pass through that road.

Then the driver explained that his wife had called him and asked him to come and pick her up from her shop, which was along Sabo Road. It was raining, and he needed to go and get her.

At that moment, I realised what had happened.

God had answered my prayer!

I did not have to argue with the driver any further. I did not have to force him to change his mind. God used an unexpected phone call from his wife to redirect him along the very road I had wanted to take.

The man who had insisted that he would not pass through Irojo Express Road eventually turned around and drove along that same road, taking me in the direction I had prayed for.

What This Experience Taught Me

This experience reminded me of an important truth: God's answer may not come when or how we expect it, but we must never conclude too quickly that He has not heard us.

When the driver refused my request, I thought the opportunity had passed. When he drove through Bolorunduro, it seemed the matter was already decided. Even when we reached the roundabout, I had no idea that the situation was about to change.

Yet God made a way through a circumstance I could never have planned: a phone call from the driver's wife.

I am reminded of Proverbs 21:1, which teaches that the heart of a king is in the hand of the Lord, and He directs it wherever He wills.

I am also reminded of Jeremiah 32:27:

"Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?"

— Jeremiah 32:27 (KJV)

My Encouragement to You

Are you praying about something, but everything around you seems to be moving in the opposite direction?

Have you asked God for something, only for circumstances to suggest that your request will not be granted?

Do not lose hope. Continue to trust Him.

Sometimes, what looks like a closed door may simply be part of a journey through which God will demonstrate His faithfulness.

I initially thought the driver had taken me away from my preferred route, but God brought him back to that very road through an unexpected circumstance.

What I could not achieve through persuasion, God accomplished without another argument.

I give all the glory, honour, and adoration to Almighty God for this wonderful answer to prayer.

May this testimony strengthen someone's faith and encourage us all to commit even the seemingly little matters of our daily lives into God's hands.

To God alone be all the glory, in Jesus' name. Amen!
