Pray for Healing, Justice & Salvation after the Death of Harvey Willgoose — Mohammed Umar Khan Named in School Knife Murder (Oct 2025)
A scripture-rooted intercession for the family of 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose, for Mohammed Umar Khan, for the school and community in Sheffield, and for all impacted by this tragedy — asking God for comfort, justice, transformation, and salvation in Christ.
Quick summary
On 3 February 2025 a 15-year-old pupil, Harvey Willgoose, was fatally stabbed during a lunch-time incident at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield. A fellow pupil, who was also aged 15 at the time, has been convicted of murder and — following a court hearing in October 2025 — the judge has lifted the automatic anonymity order so the teenager may be named as Mohammed Umar Khan. Sentencing is under way and the community continues to mourn this devastating loss while pressing for change to prevent knife crime and to better support vulnerable young people.
★ Highlighted reason to pray (urgent & clear)
We must pray urgently for salvation in Christ for everyone involved — for Harvey’s grieving family, for Mohammed Umar Khan, for fellow pupils and teachers, for emergency responders and medical staff, and for the wider community watching this tragedy unfold. Eternal salvation is the highest need: pray Romans 10:9 for hearts to turn to Jesus, for repentance, and for lasting transformation.
About the victim — Harvey Willgoose
Harvey was a 15-year-old schoolboy remembered by family, friends and the Sheffield community. Tributes, marches and public vigils followed his death earlier in 2025; his family have since campaigned for better support for young people struggling in school and for stronger measures to reduce knife crime. Harvey’s family and community continue to grieve the loss of his life and to work toward constructive change in his memory.
About the convicted teenager — Mohammed Umar Khan
Mohammed Umar Khan was 15 at the time of the incident. Evidence at trial included CCTV footage, phone searches and testimony about prior incidents and disputes. Khan told school staff after the attack that he was not “right in the head” and had issues he could not control, and his legal team presented material referencing bullying, domestic difficulties and psychological stress. He has been convicted of murder and will be sentenced following the lifting of reporting restrictions that previously protected his identity as a minor.
Because the accused was a child when the offence occurred, this case raises complex issues about youth mental health, family support, the influence of social media, school safety, and the appropriate response of the justice system to juvenile offenders.

Why we are praying — detailed and compassionate reasons
- For the family of Harvey: They face unbearable grief and public scrutiny. Pray for comfort, provision, and strength as they grieve and seek constructive change in Harvey’s name.
- For Mohammed Umar Khan: Although convicted of a grave crime, his soul remains of eternal worth. Pray for repentance, true remorse, and that he meets Jesus — that the Lord would bring saving faith, transformed affections, and genuine rehabilitation, even amid just consequences.
- For justice and wise sentencing: Pray for judges and justice officials to exercise wisdom, mercy, and discernment that serve the common good, protect the vulnerable, and encourage rehabilitation where appropriate.
- For the school community: Pupils, staff and witnesses were traumatised. Pray for trauma counseling, restorative care, and measures that make schools safer while supporting vulnerable youngsters.
- For local leaders and policymakers: Pray they will pursue practical changes — improved mental-health support, alternative education paths for children who struggle, and effective measures to reduce knife crime.
- For the broader public: Pray that the national conversation about youth violence, mental health, family neglect, and social supports would lead to compassionate, gospel-driven solutions rather than sensationalism and blame.
- For the church: Pray that Christians would respond with grace, truth and practical help — offering pastoral care, advocacy, and gospel witness to families and young people affected by violence.
This post is intended to lift real people to God in prayer — not to sensationalise a tragedy. The pain of victims, the complexity of juvenile offending, and the need for community change all require both truth and mercy. Pray with humility, act with compassion, and seek to bring the gospel into places of hurt and confusion.

Heavenly Father, we bring before You the family of Harvey Willgoose and the whole Sheffield community struck by this awful tragedy. You see their pain, their questions, and their longing for justice and peace. Comfort the grieving parents and siblings; give them strength and a sheltering hope that only Your presence provides. (Psalms 34:18)
Lord, we also pray for Mohammed Umar Khan. Even as the courts apply justice, we ask You to work in his heart. If he does not yet know You as Savior, draw him now to repentance and faith in Jesus. Bring true sorrow for sin, a turning to You, and genuine transformation that honors both justice and the possibility of rehabilitation. (Romans 10:9)
Father, grant wisdom to school leaders, judges, police, and policymakers as they respond to the causes and consequences of youth violence. Help communities to provide better mental-health support, safer environments, and meaningful alternatives for vulnerable children. Use Harvey’s legacy to bring life, not only grief. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
